Description: Explore effective solutions for feeding challenges in children with cleft lip and palate. This session will offer valuable insights into interventions that support healthy weight gain. A registered dietician will share proven strategies for nutritional support, while a speech-language pathologist will cover key techniques for assessing and addressing feeding difficulties. Additionally, we will present complex case studies that underscore the importance of interdisciplinary teamwork and early intervention. Learners will be equipped with practical tools and evidence-based strategies that they can immediately implement to improve nutritional support and feeding techniques, thereby enhancing patient outcomes and promoting healthy growth in children with cleft lip and palate.
Learning Objectives:
At the completion of this activity, learners will be able to:
- Describe at least three appropriate feeding interventions for infants with cleft lip and palate.
- Identify at least two reasons for multidisciplinary team care for the management of feeding challenges within the cleft lip and palate population.
Learning Outcomes:
At the completion of this activity, learners will be able to:
- Self-assess a gain in knowledge related to feeding challenges in children with cleft lip and palate.
- Self-assess that they will improve their performance in their clinical practice based on knowledge gained by attending this learning activity.
- Self-assess that they will be able to apply knowledge gained to their patient management, which will improve patient outcomes.
