The David P. Kuehn Speech Scholarship is named for ACPA Member David P. Kuehn, PhD.
Dr. Kuehn is a past president of ACPA (1989) and member of ACPA since 1976. He retired in 2009 from his position of professor at the University of Illinois, Department of Speech and Hearing Science. Dr. Kuehn won ACPA’s Distinguished Service Award in 2018. After retiring, Dr. Kuehn established a fund to continue his commitment to education in the field of communication sciences and cleft lip and palate.
Describing his motivation for establishing this ACPA professional scholarship fund, Dr. Kuehn wrote: I am honored and humbled by the opportunity to have known and worked with many outstanding researchers and clinicians over the course of my career, including that during my early years as a student. Now, it gives me great pleasure to be able to help students who themselves choose to make a difference in the lives of individuals born with cleft lip/palate especially as those individuals may be in need of specialized care in dealing with communicative disorders. My colleagues in speech are indispensable members of every cleft lip/palate team and I look forward to the active participation of the new cohort of speech professionals who will serve to advance knowledge and to provide treatment in this important field of endeavor.
The ACPA Board of Directors extends heartfelt appreciation to Dr. Kuehn for the The David P. Kuehn Speech Scholarship.
